QPB Short History of the Paperback and Other Milestones in Publishing by Thomas Craughwell and Damon Smith is a trade promotional publication I received several years ago as a bonus book. The first section covers paperbacks going back to The Coming into Day written in Egypt in 3000 B.C. Though some may argue that it wasn’t really paper, the first paperback was written on Papyrus. There are separate sections on other categories: banned books, Black writers, best sellers, women and Gay & Lesbian with a last section of blowing one’s own horn: “The History of QBP.” This is certainly not a great book, not even a particularly good one. Though I would recommend it to absolutely no one, I did find it to be amusing.
